The kind of place that makes you slow down

Izabella sits at 201 Baker Street, tucked into Marylebone, and it has exactly the kind of counter that makes choosing one thing slightly impossible.

There are croissants, cakes, doughnuts, waffles, pancakes and the kind of sweet things that look almost too pretty to touch. Their menu currently includes pistachio croissants, custard fruit croissants, cinnamon swirls, pain au chocolat and a whole line-up of cake slices.

It is not trying to be painfully cool or overly polished.

What I’d actually order

We tried three sweet croissants (pistachio, Lotus and Dubai-style) and those were definitely the ones I’d go back for.

The pistachio was probably my favourite, but honestly all three were worth trying.

We also had a cheese croissant, which was fine, just much less memorable than the sweet ones.

If I went back, I’d go straight for the sweet croissants again.

Would I go back?

Yes.

Not because I am trying to rank every bakery in London, but because Izabella feels like an easy little place to return to.

Somewhere to stop for a coffee, choose something sweet from the counter and sit for a while before carrying on with your day.

Sometimes that is exactly what I want from a place.

P.S. Small confession: the images in this article are AI-generated. The real croissants did not survive long enough for a proper photoshoot.
