Bleecker Baker Street: THE Burger

Went to Bleecker on Baker Street for a Burger. Here’s Why I’d Go Back.

Some days I leave work wanting a proper dinner, a reservation, maybe a glass of wine.

Other days, I just want a burger.

Nothing fancy. Nothing that needs explaining. Just something good.

That is basically how I ended up at Bleecker on Baker Street.

The menu is simple (burgers, fries, shakes) and honestly, I like that.

It knows exactly what it is and does not try too hard to be anything else.

Sometimes that is exactly what you want.

First things first: the burger

We went for the Blue Burger and the double cheeseburger.

I was very happy with the blue burger. It was rich, really satisfying and still simple enough that you could actually taste the beef instead of just getting lost in a pile of toppings.

The double cheeseburger was more classic (properly indulgent, only a little messy), exactly what you want from a double cheeseburger.

We also got the house fries, and honestly, I’m glad we did.

The burger itself was really good, but on its own? Not quite enough for us. The fries made it feel much more like a proper meal.

And they were exactly what you want next to a burger: rich, salty and very easy to keep picking at even when you’ve already told yourself you’re done.

But... London, we need to talk about the price

This is probably my main hesitation.

I liked it. Would I go back? Yes. Did I also look at the price and think okayyyy, this is still a burger? Also yes.

At the time of writing, Bleecker's official menu lists a cheeseburger at £10.50, with fries starting at £4.75. Add a shake and suddenly what began as a casual burger stop can creep past £20 quite easily.

That doesn't make it outrageously priced by London standards (unfortunately London has completely destroyed my internal understanding of what lunch should cost) but I do think it is a little expensive for such a casual meal.

You're paying restaurant-ish money for something deliberately simple.

The Baker Street one

The Baker Street branch is at 195 Baker Street, and Bleecker says it was its seventh London location.

I actually like having somewhere this casual around Baker Street because the area can feel strangely divided between chains you could find anywhere and places that turn a last minute decision dinner into something... special.

Bleecker sits somewhere comfortably in between.

You can walk in because you are hungry rather than because you planned your evening around it. And that makes me love it a little more
